Technical Abstracts

Oral Technical Abstracts

Oral Technical presenters have 20 minutes for their talk and 5 minutes for Q&A. Practice your talk ahead of time to ensure you do not go over your time. Going over the allotted time reduces the time available for your fellow presenters. Moderators will be present to facilitate the session.

All PowerPoint files must be uploaded for playback in session rooms. We encourage pre-uploading for ease onsite. Upload instructions will be provided shortly.

The oral PowerPoint template is encouraged, but not required, for presentation.

Poster Presentations

Posters must be printed by attendees and displayed in the designated area by the start of your designated "Author Present" time. It is during this Author Present time that you must be available at your poster for discussion with attendees. Poster number, session information and upload instructions will be provided shortly.

Brewing Summit poster presenters will be asked to upload a PDF of their poster presented at the meeting for inclusion in Brewing Summit Rewind. Brewing Summit Rewind provides the unique opportunity to share your research with the broader community and continue conversations beyond the in-person meeting. Prior to upload, Brewing Summit will request copyright agreement of the poster PDF, in order to post and disseminate as part of Brewing Summit Rewind in accordance with our mission and vision. Presenters will retain the right to use and republish it. Additional details on uploading your poster will be available at a later date.

*What are ‘Simplified” posters? We’re trying to solve the problem of information overload and disengagement with traditional posters. Most academic posters are cluttered, text-heavy, and designed more for reading than for actual communication. In a busy conference setting, they don't always invite interaction or make it easy for someone walking by to quickly grasp the core idea.

With this new format, we anticipate that we will:

  • Prioritize clarity over quantity.
  • Help people actually talk to each other.
  • Make the key takeaway of each project instantly visible.
  • Let the poster be a conversation starter—not just a static wall of text.
  • Increase engagement with posters (from presenters and audience). Improved communication of technical and applied science.
  • This approach can be useful in brewing and distilling science where cross/multi-disciplinary work is common and people may come from varied backgrounds—chemistry, engineering, production, sensory, etc. A more focused, visual-first format helps bridge those knowledge gaps faster.

Moderator Resources

Moderators play an essential role in a session - they welcome the audience, keep the discussion moving, facilitate audience engagement with the speaker, and ensure the session runs on time.

Download the Moderator Guidelines

To be a successful moderator, be sure to:

  • Familiarize yourself with the presenters and the presentations that will be given during your session.
  • Prepare questions for the presenters to help guide the discussion.
  • Given the high number of international participants, please speak slowly and remind your presenters to do so as well.
  • Introduce each speaker before they begin.
  • Be consistent with keeping your speakers to their allotted time.
  • Maintain a goal to try to keep all speakers engaged in the discussion.
  • Close out the session by thanking all of the speakers and the audience for their participation.
